Tool design, manufacture and regrind has been the base of the Pharos S & R Ltd (formerly Skelcher & Rowe) business in Coventry for many years.
As such the facility is set-up with over 20 tool-grinding machines ready to re-sharpen your tools ready for use again.
We have a full time driver and van based out this facility, which is available for pick-up and drop-off of tools for re-sharpening.Broaches
Recent investment has meant that we can regrind all types of broach including variable pitch helical broaches, annular broaches, special fir tree form broaches down to simple flat roughing broaches.
Our newest Hoffmann Schneeberger machine is a 6-axis CNC machine with full probing facilities to monitor and learn special broach forms prior to regrind and pre programmed stock removal.
Hobs
We have the capability of several machines to regrind most hobs including shank type and bore type hobs with either helical or straight gash formation. Both carbide hobs and hobs with negative rake are also within our capability. Dependant on tool condition and wear, hob grinding can be turned around in 1 day and then sent for recoating.
Shaving cutters
Our Samputensili shaving cutters are designed and manufactured in Italy and can be made for all of the following shaving processes: transverse, diagonal, plunge, underpass, diagonal-underpass and tangential shaving. Cutters can be manufactured in conventional HSS or in PM (M2, ASP23, ASP30). Normal modules between 0.7 and 10 mm are typical. Pharos Gear Technology Ltd regrind shaving cutters from all manufacturers using licensed SU software. Please contact our office for more information.
Coatings
We generally use Balzer’s, UK, to recoat our tools. We currently operate twice weekly coating services; so most coatings can be turned around within 2 – 3 working days. Special arrangements can be made for urgent requirements or special coatings
Shaving cutters
We run a Samputensili shaver profile regrind machine and work in partnership with the shaving cutter designers daily. We can quickly obtain, on-line, the regrind parameters for any shaving cutters that has not been manufactured by Samputensili if the customer gear data is available.
Shaping Cutters
We can also regrind both straight and helical disc type shaping cutters and provide a coating service, as with the hobs.
Re-profiling
Should your specification change after purchasing of tools, it is often possible to reprofile existing tools to give new profiles. Obviously the key to re-profiling feasibility is the amount of useful material available on the tool to grind to create the new profile. Minor modifications are normally possible.
Tool repairs
Should tool damage occur, dependent on the nature of the breakage, we can offer a repair service by welding in tool steel material, and grinding back to profile. Our technical staff will be pleased to talk to you about specific tool repairs.
